Our Philosophy
At Twin Hills Preschool, our mission is to provide a safe, nurturing and inspiring environment that celebrates the uniqueness of every child. Our philosophy is deeply rooted in the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF). Our philosophy is a living document, embedded in our daily practices and continually evolving through critical reflection and meaningful engagement with our community.
Child Safe Practices and Wellbeing
Our commitment to the safety and wellbeing of children is paramount. We have a zero-tolerance policy for child abuse, racism, and discrimination.
We believe warm, trusting and respectful relationships with familiar adults build and strengthen secure attachments that are fundamental to children’s wellbeing, resilience, and learning capabilities. We support children to act with self-confidence and autonomy, while also recognizing the interdependence of their social groups, allowing them to feel secure, respected, and to have a strong sense of identity. We recognise that, for children, a strong sense of wellbeing is a prerequisite for and an outcome of learning.
We create a safe, flexible and stimulating learning environment that fosters children’s physical, social, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing. We believe that children thrive when they have a strong sense of belonging, and we work to ensure that Twin Hills is a place where every child feels safe and valued.
An Inclusive Learning Community
We welcome and value the contributions of Aboriginal children, children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and children with a disability. We are committed to an inclusive and equitable environment where all children have the opportunity to succeed.
We explicitly acknowledge the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation as the traditional custodians of the land on which we live and learn. We recognize the value of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and actively include them in our curriculum. We promote cultural safety, awareness and understanding for all children by providing an educational program that strengthens their culture and identity.
The Child as a Capable and Competent Learner
We believe that children are powerful, competent, and active learners who learn best through play-based program that supports their natural curiosity and desire to explore.
Our flexible, developmentally-appropriate curriculum provides a wide range of opportunities for children to problem-solve, create and discover, allowing children to gain skills, maximize their potential and develop a positive self-image. Our educators engage in scaffolding, questioning and listening to extend children’s learning. We use intentional teaching to introduce new concepts and ideas, ensuring that learning is both purposeful and responsive to children’s interests.
Partnerships and Professional Practice
At Twin Hills, we believe that families are the first and most important influences in their children’s lives. We foster strong, reciprocal partnerships with families, respecting their unique roles, values and beliefs. We support meaningful engagement by actively involving families in our program, seeking their perspectives and knowledge to gain a holistic understanding of each child and support their learning both at kindergarten and at home.
Our dedicated educators are committed to continuous improvement and work collaboratively to ensure a high-quality program for all children. We engage in ongoing reflective practice, using the Early Years Planning Cycle to collect data, question, analyse and plan to strengthen our decisions about what is important for our children and families. We work with a range of professionals in our community to provide integrated and consistent support, ensuring that our practices are always informed by the latest research and best evidence.
